I am broadly interested in the ecology and economics of managed systems. My dissertation research is focused on agricultural systems, namely pesticides and the potential consequences of pesticide use for human and environmental health. I recieved a B.S. in ecology & evolutionary biology from the University of Michigan and have completed a master's in economics concurrent to my Ph.D work at UC Santa Barbara. Previously I have participated in field projects ranging from nutrient cycling in the arctic tundra to agroecology in southern Mexico. I took a different path with my dissertation research, and am currently working with large national databases to understand patterns of pesticide use and to identify if there are consequences to low levels of pesticide exposore for human and environmental health.

About CHANS-Net

Coupled human and natural systems (CHANS) are integrated systems in which humans and natural components interact. CHANS research has recently emerged as an exciting and integrative field of cross-disciplinary scientific inquiry, with research projects covering a variety of coupled systems in locations spanning the globe. Although individual projects have generated many important insights, it is essential to systematically transform the field to be more than the sum of its parts and provide broader insights of greater scientific and societal significance than those resulting from individual projects alone. The goal of CHANS-Net is to foster this transformation by facilitating communication and collaboration among members of the CHANS research community.
