Darwin's research interests build on his more than 25 years of professional planning practice working with communities at the local through the international scale, including First Nations, enhancing community resilience and sustainability. Darwin's PhD research focused on the social aspects of socioecological governance as it applies to climate change, water resources and resilience building. Recently, Darwin was involved in the development of the first World Forum on Ecosystem Governance, hosted in Beijing, China through his affiliation with IUCN-CEM (International Union for Conservation of Nature - Commission on Ecosystem Management).
