Founder of SORA - a non-profit organization creating an alliance for the conservation of natural wild rice across northern Minnesota and Wisconsin. SORA emerged from my doctorate work on  wild rice (Zizania palustris) harvest, management and distribution across state, tribal and treaty ceded lands. I am also working on a project on the St. Louis River Estuary and human-nature relationships with the University of Wisconsin - Madison (my alma mater). I am interested in building greater awareness and understanding of natural wild rice and the cultural tradition of hand-harvesting.
