I was interested in the environment growing up and participated in many outdoor activities (I was an Eagle Scout). This led to a BS in forest science, followed by graduate work on environmental topics such as sewage effluent disposal on a forest and acid rain effects on ecosystems. My Ph.D. in environmental science prepared me for working in a range of ecosystems, which I have continued to expand throughout my career (moving from forested more natural ecosystems to highly managed agricultural). Because of my broad range of studies and ecosystem types, I have published papers in a wide range of journals.

Research Interests:
Water/Biogeochemistry, Agronomy/Agroecology, Ecosystem Science, Forest Resources and Management, Soil Science and Conservation
