Dr. Alexander has established a field laboratory in her study site in Northern Botswana which has both molecular genetics and bacteriological investigations capacity-the first of its kind in the region. The focus of her work is directed at understanding disease transmission dynamics at the human-wildlife interface. In Botswana, Risa Pesapane, a Masters student, processes DNA from bacteria cultured from banded mongoose fecal samples.

Research Interests:
disease ecology with special focus on disease transmission at the human-wildlife interface and emerging zoonotic disease, public health, ecosystem health, and sustainable community development
