Aide's research interests and those of the students in his laboratory cover a diversity of topics, e.g. plant/animal interactions, forest dynamics, population dynamics, restoration ecology, land-use change, community ecology and ecological informatics. They have conducted these projects in tropical ecosystems in Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Panama, Colombia, Argentina and China.

In the future, he will dedicate most of his research time to the following three topics:

  • understanding how demographic and economic change in Latin America are affecting land-use patterns and biodiversity
  • using technological advances to automate data collection in remote area
  • facilitating regional planning by combining alternative futures and adaptive management approaches.
