Abstracts requested for AGU special session on urban metabolism

June 20, 2011

The four conveners of the special session on urban metabolism at the American Geophysical Union (AGU) fall meeting are requesting abstracts for the session, "Characterizing, Modeling and Extending Urban Metabolism."

The AGU fall meeting is Dec. 5-9, 2011 in San Francisco.

Urban metabolism is a biological metaphor for the coupled biophysical and socio-economic function of cities. It has been a productive framework for urban biogeophysical research for decades and currently understanding of urban metabolism is evolving rapidly. But for the discipline to grow as a useful research framework, coupled urban biogeophysical and socio-economic systems need better understanding.

Abstracts can be theoretical or applied studies spanning the spectrum of urban metabolism research. Topics of interest include urban coupled-human natural interactions, urban biogeochemistry, urban hydrology and energy budgets, and spatio-temporal modeling of urban systems that examine the limits and potential of the urban metabolism concept.

Abstracts must be submitted by Aug. 4, 2011. Visit the AGU page on abstract submission policies for more information or contact one of the session conveners:
