Defining CHANS -- its roots and its future

May 17, 2011

Peru RiverbankThe study of coupled human and natural systems is driving more and more researchers to bridge disciplines, let little is known or quantified about what’s driving this new shift in scientific inquiry.

A group of researchers is surveying scientists about the backgrounds, motivations, and experiences of interdisciplinary researchers, or the factors promoting or inhibiting fruitful interdisciplinary research.  The goal: define basic parameters of such factors so that research programs, funding initiatives, and institutional decisions can best support interdisciplinary research.

All responses will be private.  Participants will not be associated with their responses, and all data will be reported in such a way that does not allow individual identification.  Participant privacy will be protected to the maximum extent allowable by law.  All responses to this survey and any of the questions are completely voluntary and should take about 20 minutes to complete.  Participants indicate their voluntary agreement to participate by completing this survey.
