Landscape Dynamics Along Environmental Gradients

The U.S. Regional Association of the International Association for Landscape Ecology (US-IALE) will hold its 2013 Annual Symposium in Austin, Texas for the first time.

The meeting will attract educators and practitioners in the fields of geology, ecology, biology, geography, and landscape preservation and design dedicated to preserving and protecting our natural resources. Highlights will include intensive workshops, plenary sessions, symposia, field trips, oral presentations and posters.

The Austin and Central Texas area are situated at the intersection of the Blackland Prairies, Cross Timbers and Edwards Plateau ecoregions. As such, the area is home to a large diversity of species and landscapes including iconic species such as the endangered golden-cheeked warbler and Barton Springs salamander. Spring through fall, Austin hosts the largest urban colony in North America of Mexican free-tailed bats under the Congress Avenue Bridge with an estimated 1,500,000 bats.
