A Well-Founded Fear of Climate Extremes? Tracing the Footprint of Environmental Migrants

The goal of the subject research is to explore if, where and when data layers align to identify a footprint of environmental migrants. The approved research prospectus very specifically aims to create the world’s first global historic database on environmentally-driven migration –to capture the footprint of environmental migrants through space and time. After two events (an Environmental Demography Course and the UNU Summer Academy), the research agenda has expanded to include a wider coverage of environmental stressors and an exploratory modeling phase. The research agenda entails four phases: 1. Definition/drivers, 2. Database/mapping, 3. Confirmation/case studies and 4. Modeling.
