Matthew Burke studied natural resources and environmental education and communications at the Ohio State University. Following graduation, Matthew spent three years with a small educational field studies non-profit based in Ohio and the Bahamas. In 2000, he completed a master's degree in environmental education at the University of New Mexico. He then spent several years learning various skills of sustainable living, including green home building, organic farming and permaculture. He and his wife have operated a small farm in Vermont since 2006. Having completed a master's of public administration in 2014, Matthew is now undertaking doctoral studies and research at McGill University, emphasizing public policy in energy and environment, environmental governance, and political ecology.
